Research Interest

In the last decade has increased the need to replace fish meal in animal feed plant protein, because production of this input is vulnerable to weather conditions in producer countries, which has generated a strong variation prices, in addition to high production costs and lower raw material sources of high pressure product of industrial fishing. Approximately 25% of all fish caught ends up as flour.

In this sense, the yellow lupin (L. luteus) has positioned as a potential alternative to this situation, due to the high protein content of grains, besides having many other features that allow adaptation to the conditions of our country. Therefore the Agroacuícola Nutritional Genomics Center has created a research platform for the improvement of this species.

We have now succeeded in generating a large number of breeding lines, where my interest lies in evaluating the agronomic, production and nutrition, via the establishment of field trials in different locations, which allows evaluating the variability lines against different environments. The most prominent lines are evaluated in farmers' fields from this crop, generating a large transfer of knowledge for them and for us, allowing us to better understand their needs and problems, allowing us as breeders to participate in creating solutions for them.
