Interés de investigación

Uno de los aspectos vitales en mejoramiento vegetal radica en la expansión y adaptación de cultivos a diversos medioambientes. Cultivos oleaginosos como Brassica rapa L. (n=10), Brassica napus L. (n=19), Brassica juncea (L.) Czern (n=18) y Brassica carinata Braun (n=17) no son la excepción.

Cultivos de las especies antes mencionadas son empleados como fuentes de aceites comestibles e industriales en medioambientes diversos tales como los encontrados en Australia, Canadá, India y el Reino Unido.

Mi área de investigación se focaliza en explotar la variabilidad genética de cultivos oleaginosos pertenecientes al género Brassica para generar líneas altamente adaptadas al Sur de Chile manteniendo los estándares de calidad necesarios para su utilización en la cadena agroalimenticia.

En este sentido, es fundamental el desarrollo de líneas de alto rendimiento que posean bajos contenidos de antinutricionales  (ej. ácido erúcico, glucosinolatos) y un contenido balanceado de ácidos grasos esenciales (ej. omega-3, omega-6). A su vez,  me interesa estudiar la estructura y evolución de los genomas de especies diploides y poliploides de este género.
